Add Un-Launch Site Option

I would like to suggest the option to “un-launch” your WordPress.com site. I had to launch my site in order to have some tech support help. Once tech support was resolved, there is no option to “un-launch,” only to make my site private. I was not ready for my site to go public. So before my site was launched, I had this great “coming soon” page. Now, it’s just an ugly text message that says my site is private. I asked tech support if it is possible to un-launch and they said it is not. I am using premium, so I do not have the option to add plug ins without upgrading my plan. We should be able to un-launch our sites in order to do maintenance or make changes to our theme without upgrading.

  • Hi there,

What you’re describing is a maintenance mode or a staging site system. That is not currently possible on WordPress.com, and not what the launch feature on WordPress.com is intended to be.

We should be able to un-launch our sites in order to do maintenance or make changes to our theme without upgrading.

This is already possible. You can preview a new theme in the Customizer and make changes to it there, and then save those changes as a draft without making them public on your site.
