Add wordpress to my existing site ?
-
I have an old website which I created years ago with Dreamweaver. I would now like to modernise this site with WP (but I would still like to keep my current domain).
Is there a way I can either :
– use WP to update my old site, (unlikely I gather) or
– build, and test a new site with WP somewhere so that when it is all finished and working I could replace the old site with the new one. I am a bit nervous about upsetting the old site until the new one is ready. Any ideas would be very welcome. Thanks -
Yes :) This is a very common question. You are looking at the second option you mentioned. Go ahead and build your new site on WordPress.com. Import your content, customize the theme, get it all ready to launch.
Keeping the new site private will help prevent any SEO confusion since you’re going to have the same content on two different addresses.

There’s 2 ways to connect the domain. Either will work fine.
1. Mapping: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
2. Transfer: https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/Write back with more questions :)
