Add zip and dmg files to media library
-
Is there a way to upload arbitrary types of files to the media library so visitors to my site can download .zip and .dmg files?

Hi there, @rodrigospacecraft!
You can add .zip files to your site. You can upload those to your site and easily allow visitors to download the .zip by adding it to the File Block. Here is how to use that block:
The File block allows you to place a download button for documents and other files on your website. 💡 Do you want to embed a PDF file instead? See Embedding a PDF File. Add a File Block Select your file from the media library, or upload one from your device. The File block can be added from the Block Inserter icon. Alternatively, you can use the slash command /I hope that help! Let me know if you have any questions!

Hi there, @rodrigospacecraft!
It generally depends on what’s in the zip file. .zip file can be uploaded as long as it contains an accepted file type. Accepted file types can be found here:
This page lists the types of files that you can upload to your WordPress.com site. Before uploading files to your site, please ensure that you own or have the legal right to distribute them. If you do not own the files and do not have express permission from the owner or copyright holder, you may not place them on your site. Hi there, @rodrigospacecraft!
Sorry about that. Just so you know, this is for security purposes. On a site on the Business plan, it may be possible to add additional file types. If you need any additional help, do not hesitate to reach out.

Hi there, @rodrigospacecraft!
You can add a plugin like https://wordpress.com/plugins/wp-extra-file-types or search for alternative plugins at https://wordpress.com/plugins
Keep in mind that those are third party plugins so we do offer limited support for those.
Another option would be to upload the files to your site using SFTP. Here is how to use SFTP:
This feature is available on sites with the WordPress.com Business or Commerce plan. If your site has one of our legacy plans, it is available on the Pro plan. This guide will show you how to use SFTP on WordPress.com. For example, you could add it to Google Drive and then add the Google Drive link to your site.
I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Ok, using SFTP, I was able to upload a .dmg file. However, my efforts to download it have been unsuccessful. I get a “Error 0004. Unable to load the image.” error when trying to download it from a web browser.
It’s not a problem with my web browser since I can download that same .dmg file from elsewhere just fine. Here’s the link to the uploaded .dmg file if you want to try it yourself: https://i0.wp.com/rodrigospacecraft.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Cesium_Software_101.dmg

That link is for our Site Accelerator (CDN) and it is not set up to handle all file types, but is primarily optimized for speeding the load time of images and other media added to site pages directly.
However if you try the direct link at https://rodrigospacecraft.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Cesium_Software_101.dmg that worked for me in my tests, and resulted in an immediate download.Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
