added a new post but only have an early saved version now

    Hi, I am a complete newbie at this.

    I started a post today and when I finished I went to preview and all it shows is the first paragraph or so. I went back to the dashboard and now there is nothing of the finished post except that first paragraph I saw in the preview. I know the auto save is functioning.

    Can anyone tell me how to recover the finished post or do I just need to write it again?
    It was clever. It was long, detailed, and concluded well as I am sure all blogger’s posts are. It deserves to be found, lol. : (

    Go to your screen options link on the top right hand corner of your Admin page and click. Be sure to include theses Modules:
    Posts – Post Tags, Categories, Excerpt, Send Trackbacks, Discussion, Comments, Post Slug, Post Author, Post Revisions
    Page – Page Attributes, Recommendations, Featured Image, Discussion, Comments, Slug, Author, Revisions

    Then go to your draft posts and edit the post. Look way down below it to locate “post revisions”. When you’ve decided which version you want (that is, the revision date of the version you want to restore), then on the right hand side on that row you can click on the word “RESTORE” to replace your current post/draft with that particular version. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/03/21/wordpress-recovering-a-lost-blog-post-or-page/

    Thanks for the quick response timethief. Forgot to mention I’m on the free wordpress version, not the full version. Not sure if that makes a difference but when I go to screen options I do not see the modules you mentioned. Clicking screen options leads to “Show on Screen” at the top of the page with check marks on Right Now, Recent Comments, Your Stuff, What’s Hot, Quickpress, Recent Drafts, and Stats. Everything else looks the same as the dashboard.

    Am I in the right place or …way off base (most likely, I fear)?

    Hello there,
    You are posting to the correct forum. Go to your draft posts and edit the post. Look below it. Can you see “post revisions”?

    I am in edit post. Below it I see “Writing helper” and “Likes and Shares”

    Nothing that says “Post revisions”
