Added HTML code to Text Widget and it changed Font in Sidebar
-
I entered a blog competition, and was sent some HTML code to add to my blog to show that I am entered.
I added it to the sidebar using the Text widget, and it displayed fine.
The only problem is that now the font on the sidebar, which was in Verdana, has been changed to Lucida Console.
The original HTML code was in Lucida Console, although when I pasted it into the Text widget it displayed as Verdana.
I tried changing the font of the HTML code to Verdana before copying and pasting, but it didn’t make any difference.
This is the code that I copied and pasted:

I know nothing about HTML, even novice would be too generous a description of my knowledge level, so please keep replies extremely short, simple, and non-technical. If there's no quick fix, I probably can't fix it.

Okay, I didn’t realise that everything I wrote beneath the HTML code would display as code.
Only the part in the first greyed-out box is the code, the rest is me asking for help and explaining my low level of understanding.

The code doesn’t look wrong to me, but try going to Setttings->Writing and setting it to “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML” and save. Then edit the widget. Just take out or add a period, anything at all. That should force that setting to take effect. That should fix it and prevent this from happening again.

Thanks, I never even thought to change that in Settings.
I added a period at the start of the code, and although it’s still displaying correctly as before, it hasn’t changed the font back to Verdana.

Is there someone I can contact at WordPress about this, as I would like my blog to be looking its best while being judged in the competition, and appearance is taken into account during judging?

If that really is all the code, there is no font information there. It should not have had any effect. Try setting your last 20 posts to Private and then back to Published on the dashboard Posts page. That should cure any lingering HTML errors.

In the unlikely event anyone else has this issue, this is how I fixed it:
Removed the Text box entirely after deleting the code and saving.
Put the Text box at the BOTTOM of the sidebar, so that there is nothing beneath it to be affected.
Copy and pasted the code into the new Text box.
Save.
