Adding 100% width colour/image to WP theme

    Hi there,
New to the world or WordPress but not building websites using CSS.
I have bought a theme and am in the messing and sorting stage to see what it can do.

I have an issue that I am finding frustrating because on a static site it would be simple.
I have set in my theme a body width of 970px to keep everything together. The header and image can go 100% width however the footer is inside the body and as a result I cannot get a image or band or colour in the footer at 100% width.
I want the contents of the footer to stay within the body but a band of colour or image to go 100% width.

If static I would just create a div at 100% width and have a header and footer set to 100% and inner content at 970px with margins set to auto.

As this is a theme I cant work out how to create a class or anything that can work.

Its not important that this does this but any help would be great.

You can see some of what I am messing with here: http://www.signatureaccessories.co.uk/

Thanks for any thoughts in advance :) P

I checked http://www.signatureaccessories.co.uk/ and I found that site is setup using WordPress software, but it is not hosted here at WordPress.com. See http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ to learn about the differences.

Because you control the code, you may just be able to update the theme. You could edit the files directly or create a child theme. Or if you want to stick with CSS only edits, you could use absolute positioning to break the footer outside of the normal document flow.

Can you please ask for further support either from the theme developer for the theme you are using or at the WordPress.org forums which were setup for sites such as yours?
