Adding 500 email subscribers to my blog myself

Need help: I need to add my customer’s emails to my blog so that they will get an email every time I have a new post. They can then confirm their subscription if they want to receive it, but how do I do this?

Will all your customers appreciate this? Why not send them all an email first, with a link to the area of your blog to subscribe.

That way, you have a nice introduction about this process. They are no different from the rest of us: bombarded with useful and useless automatic emails/spam.

My suggestion, just in case you change site platforms or hosts in the future is to use something that isn’t going to require this next time. Use Google’s feedburner subscription instead of the one here (where you will have to add all 500 individually, and manually). That way if you move, all you have to do is enter the new feed address at feedburner and reverify it.

They offer a plain HTML version of their code which can be used here (further down on the page below the standard javascript code).

The other thing to remember, if you leave here, there is no way to export all those subscribers so that you can put them into the new site location.

    Use Feedburner.

I agree with maidiebike, maybe because we are both Canadian, and doing that is against the law here unless they have specifically requested to receive email updates of all your blog posts.

Thank you all for your input!

My customers are given an assumptive close when they buy my purse-making supplies — that is they will be signed up to receive my blog posts for technical tips and new product designs — free of charge. I assume they want this since it’s an added service benefit and not “for sale” email blasts. They cannot buy things on my blog. They can only get more technical info related to their purse-making activity since most are novices.

I don’t have plans to change platforms or hosts since I like the FREE aspect of WordPress as well as the password protected ability by posts. :)

That said, the question I have is how do to add all 500 individually and manually if I want to keep this email subscription feature?

I’ll check out Feedburner, can you send me a link to that? Can I manually add all 500 email addresses in there? I like the email subscriptions because it’s just withing the drag-and-drop of widgets. I would need to learn where the code is and where to insert it.

    Thanks again!

It’s at http://feedburner.google.com/ , but I just checked and there isn’t anyway I can see for you to add the people. You would have to put the code into a text widget and then send them all an email telling them it is available for them to sign up with, and give them a link to your blog.

The issue Raincoaster talks about is what keeps these services from providing any sort of import function. It would be something that would be ripe for abuse.
