Adding a "Back to top" jump
-
I just created a menu of headings within a long post, and successfully added the jump codes through “Advanced”. All links work … from the top down.
Then I added “Back to the top” links the same way after different sections of text, but I can’t get them to jump to the top. The links are dead.
I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong. I’m using the block editor.

Hi there,
For the Back to Top links you don’t use headings, like you currently have, and you also don’t add IDs to those – IDs are used only on the elements you’re jumping to, not the elements/links you’re jumping from.
To make Back to Top links, you need to add an ID to something at the very top of your page, or you can use an id already applied by your theme to something at the top, like
#masthead. Then you add the “Back to Top” as regular text, highlight it, click the Link icon in the editor, and add#mastheadas the URL.
