Adding a badge to my homepage
-
I would like to participate in the Ultimate Blog Party that is starting tomorrow. I would like to place one of their badges on my homepage, but I’m not sure how to go about it. I found the codes for the badges: http://www.5minutesformom.com/16492/ultimate-blog-party-2010-badges/ but I’m not sure what to do with the codes in order to get the badge to appear on my blog. I’m still fairly new to this blogging thing and still trying to figure it all out! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Copy the code for the button you want, then go to your blog and put it either in a Post or in a Text Widget.
If you put it in a Post, be sure to paste the code in the HTML editor, NOT the visual editor. Then it’ll show up like normal when you post it. If you put it in a text widget in the sidebar, just paste the code in to the text widget and it should work; you can put a title or not, your choice.

Thanks so much for your reply! I know this should be easy, but I’m still having issues. I followed your instructions for pasting the code into a text widget, and it did show up in my sidebar, but it showed up as the actual code, not the image. What am I doing wrong?

I don’t see the “code” being displayed in the sidebar of the blog your username is linked to. Which blog are you referring to? Please provide the URL. Also note that if the “badge” you are attempting to display contains any restricted code such as but not limited to advertising the software will strip that code out. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
If you post the code here between backticks then we can be more helpful. The backtick ` is found on the same key as the tilde ~. That key is to the immediate left of the number 1 key. The format is:

I had taken it off the blog since it wasn’t the image. I put it back so that you can see it, if you want. It is the frugalfantic blog. This is the code

The blog you have in the Rounded theme has a flexible width in the sidebar but the badge is far too large to display in a text widget. Notice that the site you are getting it from has it displayed in a post. IMO you ought to capture the image and link it to the URL you have posted but place it in a post rather than in a text widget. Here are the instructions for uploading images > http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/

The code you’ve pasted is the URL of the webpage. You need to paste the code for one of the banners, for instance:
<a href="http://www.5minutesformom.com/16471/ultimate-blog-party-2010-is-coming/"><img src="http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k210/5m4m/buttons/events/blog_party_banner_square.png" title="Ultimate Blog Party 2010" alt="Ultimate Blog Party 2010" /></a> -
I’m such a goof! That’s exactly what I had done! Thanks so much for showing me the error of my ways!!
