Adding a blog to “blogroll” and WP adds it to another category

Whenever I add a blog to my blogroll via the “add to blogroll” button, the blog appears under another category that I have previously made but which I do not use. Then I have to manually manage my links to display under the “blogroll” category and not under the other one. I am also not able to delete the other unused category – there is simply no box to “tick” it off and click “delete”. Only “blogroll” category is deleteable.

I do not understand why this is so. Or is this some kind of feature of WordPress, that it doesn’t add blogs to the blogroll when you tell it to do so, by default?

The category without a box to tick is the one designated as your default category (that’s why “add to blogroll” assigns new blog links to this category). Go to Settings > Writing > Default Link Category, select the one you wish, click Save Changes. Then you’ll be able to delete the unwanted one.

The default link category only has to do with writing posts, it has nothing to do with the blogroll.

There are two sets of links. Those for the blogroll and those for the posts. Under settings > writing, you are setting the default link category for writing posts, not for the blogroll.

Ignore my last post here, panaghiotisadam you are correct.

You are both correct, thanks. There is both an option for “default post category” as well as “default link category” when going to Settings -> Writing.

    Thanks for the help!
