Adding A Category

  • Unknown's avatar

I choose ‘Category’ from the menu, I type in a new category name, no parent, I add a description, I hit ‘Add Category’. THEN I go to Add New Post, and I type in the name and then the text. I hit ‘Save Draft”. Then I preview the site, and to the right sidebar and are no categories listed. Under the title of the Post, the second item has the category name. I click on it, and it reads ‘NOT FOUND’. Can anybody help? I want category names in the sidebar to the right, and I want to click on the category and access a posting.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

A category needs to be linked to a Post before it will be displayed – also you have no Posts at all, having deleted the Hello World Post – make a test Post and assign you Categories to it.

So far, no luck. I tried link category. I typed in the category name, Hit ‘Add New Link’, and it shows on the posting screen and preview the post. The category name is not into the right sidebar. It is underneath the page title. It has the right category under the title, but I click on it, and I get the ‘NOT FOUND’ response.

make a test Post and assign your Categories to it.

Until you do the above you will beat your head against the keyboard with NO results

    it reads ‘NOT FOUND’
Because you haven’t published the post yet.

    I tried link category
Link categories are for your blogroll links, not your posts.

I choose ‘Category’ from the menu [etc.]
You mean you click “Categories” in the dashboard sidebar. Don’t do it: it’s an unnecessary step.

To create a post, you go to Posts > Add New. The post editor includes a Categories module: that’s where you assign a category to the post. If you’re not seeing the Categories module on the post editor screen, click Screen Options (top right) to activate it.

So I published the post, and things are looking up.

    Thanks.
