Adding a copyright statement to the footer?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi!

    I’d like to add a copyright statement to the footer of my site so that it appears on the landing page as well as every post and page.

    I know that I can’t modify the existing text about WordPress and the theme, but can I add text? Or is there a way to combine both? I’ve seen some nice statements such as this one, which contains all the same elements but in 1 sentence: “©2015 Michael Hyatt., Powered by the Get Noticed! Theme, the WordPress theme to build your platform.”

    Thanks,
    C.

    Hi C!

    You can add text to the existing footer using CSS. This should work for your theme — let me know if you have any additional questions.

    div.site-info:after {
      content: " | ©2015 Michael Hyatt., Powered by the Get Noticed! Theme, the WordPress theme to build your platform.";
    }

    I also would like to know this.

    I really thought wordpress was more customizable. Now I learn that you cannot even remove the theme statement? I payed premium price and my own domain for a site that says wordpress at the bottom? There is really no way to remove it??? All this time using Weebly and I thought I was missing out…

    You cannot remove footer credit links. There is no upgrade that provides that ability.

    Removal of footer credit links is a Terms of Service violation. Though removing footer credit links, which leads to the untrue assumption that you designed the theme, and that you are hosting your site yourself is not allowed, it’s possible to add your own text to the footer area using CSS if you have purchased the Business bundle or Premium bundle of upgrades containing the Custom Design upgrade. Then you can include styling credit if you have done any unique styling and/or include a copyright notice.

    I pretty much just stated that.

    I did purchase mine, so I should own it and do as I wish since that’s usually how it is supposed to work.

    Mot sure why you just repeated everything that has already been said.

    “©2015 Michael Hyatt., Powered by the Get Noticed! Theme, the WordPress theme to build your platform.”

    That might be on a WordPress.ORG install and may or may not be legal (different themes have different rules) – if it is on a WordPress.COM site they are in violation of the terms of service and their blog can be suspended, no notice required

    There is no upgrade you can buy here that lets you remove or alter the footer credits – even the VIP blogs starting at $20,000 have to have the footer credits

    Their sandbox – their rules

    @allenayler
    I guess you failed to read these carefully or you would not have posted
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/#frequently-asked-questions Scroll down to “May I remove the Admin Bar, credit links such as ‘Blog at WordPress.com’, theme, font, or toolbar links?” and note that all this is provided before you purchase the upgrade.

    Ok, thank you all for the info.

    @timethief, would you mind having a look at my footer and let me know if this looks ok to you? I would have preferred a combine statement, but since it doesn’t seem possible, this would work nicely too.

    Much appreciated!

    looks fine to me – my only nitpick would be to match the copyright symbol match the font

    But I don’t think many people really read the footer anyway – they visit your site for the content

    You be welcome & good luck

    Indeed, I just assumed. I came from what was supposed to be a lower grade web builder, which happened to allow that customizability. I think I just inadvertently downgraded, for an extra $170

    @auxclass – I know it looks skinnier than the rest of the text, but the font style and size are identical:( This often happens with symbols – they never seem to quite match up!

    Thanks to everyone for the help!
    C.
