Adding a Counter to a Free Website

  • Unknown's avatar

I wanted to add a counter to each page in my free WordPress website. When I follow the directions it tells me if I do this that my Privacy settings need to be changed from public to hidden. It also says that if I install this plugin my subdomain will change from .wordpress.com to .wpcomstaging.com. Why? Thank you.

  • Hi there,

Can you tell me what you mean by a counter?

If you’re trying to install a plugin, you’ll need to upgrade to our Business Plan, as plugins are only allowed on that plan. Installing plugins causes your free WordPress.com address to change as explained in that notice, yes. But the plan also allows you to add a custom domain to your site for free, which will appear to visitors instead of the free WordPress.com address.

I think you mean from private to hidden, as your site at https://duvcwnonevadatent.wordpress.com/ is currently set to private.

Setting a site as private is not possible if you’re using plugins on the site. In that case you’d need to install a maintenance mode plugin on your site to keep it hidden from public view while you continue working on it.
