Adding a custom nav bar

Hey there…
I am working on perfecting the colors and layout of my blog, heylaw.wordpress.com.
I’m about to purchase the advanced CSS upgrade, and these are the changes I’ve planned to make thus far:body {

}My question: I want to get a nav bar in my layout, similar (or frankly, the same) as the one in the free Day Dream theme. This way, my right sidebar will only have a picture.

The site linked to your username is not a wordpress.COM blog so we can’t help you with that. If you are talking about a wordpress.COM blog then we need a link to it.

You cannot use custom CSS to add navigation to the top of a theme. The underlying theme files would need alteration and we do not have access to those files. This is a multi-user platform which means we all share the same underlying theme and wordpress files. Any change by one person would change it for everyone using that theme.

You could switch to K2 Lite which is actually the replacement for Kubrick and it is much easier to customize via CSS. And it has the benefit of already having top navigation.

hmm i will check it out. the only thing i really need from the theme is blue and white colors (which i can do via css), top nav, and sidebar “picture”. just trying to have a really clean, website looking style.

Yeah, check it out. Kubrick is a mess from a CSS standpoint and K2 is much better. And I’m sorry I missed your website address in your first post.

So far it’s looking good. Is there a way to make a popup appear over a nav bar link to show the subpages beneath it?

No. None of the themes here at wordpress.COM have that function. Subpages would only show in the pages widget unfortunately.

ahh, well thanks for your help! i guess i will just have to make the parent page a sort of “splash” to introduce the rest.

the first link on my nav bar is titled ‘blog’ and links to my default page.. i already had this as a link and renamed it ‘about’.. how do i remove the blog button?

There are some themes without a link in the navigation to the “blog” page, but most of them would probably take more work for you given what you are looking for. The center column of themes in the following blog post tell which themes do not have a home tab in the top navigation.
