Adding a custom RSS feed page
-
I’d like to be able to have a page on my website that pulls RSS feeds from other sites. Is there a way to do this? Say, it pulls from our Blogroll for the RSS feed page content, and displays it on a nice, concise page?
-
Our rss feeds are for placement in text widgets in our sidebar. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/12/24/using-the-rss-widget/
http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/put-your-feed-in-your-sidebar/ -
But I don’t want a sidebar. I’d like it to function as an entire page, reading off of my blogroll.
-
Well then you’ll have to wait until someone comes up with a way to do this. (We are volunteers).

That would be great; thanks timethief. If you guys are all volunteers, then kudos to you for that!

There’s a work around in this thread https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=6697&page&replies=10#post-64999
-
The bottom line here is that pages do not have rss feeds https://en.forums.wordpress.com/search.php?q=feed+page
-
Hrm. No chance of pulling a feed then. Hopefully someone will come up with this soon as an add-on.

hi,
if I got right what you asked…
I have been doing this in my site, take a look (four feeds in the same page):
http://foto.nonada.flog.br/HOW: its free, with CARP -> http://www.geckotribe.com/rss/carp/
PROBLEM: Can´t get WordPress Feeds to give FullText (blogger works just fine), anyone knows how to get fulltext feeds?
-
@luishcoelho
You are self-hosted and carp is a javascript so it will not work on wordpress.com hosted blogs. -
you are half right, my site is self-hosted but my blogs aren´t, It may still be a solution for smiletenshi until WordPress offer this kind of solution for us (I would like something like that too!!!!).
Anyway, do you have any clue why the feeds by WordPress don´t offer full text (only 300 letters)?
thanks.

In order to understand why pages do not have feeds on needs to be clear on the differences between a post and a page. There is only one page (usually the front page but this can be changed) that will automatically update on our blogs. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/11/11/a-post-and-a-page/
You can create feeds for categories and you can use the work around posted above but AFAIK that’s it. -
I thought the initial question which is what I am looking for as well is to take an existing (external) feed and display it as a page – not take a page’s feed.
Is that possible?
-
It’s not possible with what is here at wordpress.com. You can do it with the wordpress software from wordpress.org, one of a number of plugins, and your own host located elsewhere.
-
to take an existing (external) feed and display it as a page
When I read this I think of its potential as a blog scrpaing tool. And, as we already have a HUGE problem with blog scrapers I’m glad wordpress.com bloggers cannot use my feed to create a page of my posts on their blog.
-
@timethief
I totally agree, which is exactly why I keep my feed set to show only one summarized post, because there are places out there that can display feeds in pages. If they show mine, they don’t get much. -
For SEO reason, it was very good to all of us to have it. In my case I use only because I want fresh news from Google Feeds. (and I show only a few words from the news, not the entire post)
Example:
Title of Post
Content of Post
Link from where RSS Feed you pulled. (If someone uses your feed you gain a Link to your blog and that is very good. It meens that people are reading your blog) -
We have all heard the SEO chorus, over and over again.The problem we have is that while you might be a person of integrity, who would only display an excerpt with a link back, every day we discover legions of greedy, parasitic blog scrapers, who are stealing whole blog articles, and in some cases providing no link back to the original articles as well. This is why I sincerely hope that wordpress.com staff and management do not introduce this ability here.

And not just stealing whole articles, but in some cases stealing entire blogs. Right down to the copyright notices.
