  I want to add my domain name to Word Press
  My Domain is registered with another host,
  I don’t understand what it means to map it to Word Press
  Can you transfer your domain to word press.
  What am i actually paying for and why do I need to upgrade when first starting out?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Domain mapping is basically a process that “points”, or “connects” if you will, a domain you already own to another host. In this case, you’ll be “pointing” your domain to WordPress.

  Can you transfer your domain to word press.

  You can only map domains to WordPress. If by what you mean is to have a WordPress hosted domain, a domain created by and hosted by WordPress, then that is possible. You can get a free custom domain with any upgraded WordPress Plan.

  why do I need to upgrade when first starting out?

  You don’t need to upgrade to anything if you don’t want to. If you want to use a custom domain or a domain you already own hosted from elsewhere, it is simply required that you upgrade to a paid plan.

  As @ismyblogyours mentioned, domain mapping is a way of connecting an existing domain to your site here on WordPress.com. That domain is currently pointing to another host, but once domain mapping has been set up it will point to WordPress.com instead — visitors will then see you WordPress.com site when they visit the domain.

  Can you transfer your domain to word press.

  It’s not currently possible to transfer a domain to WordPress.com so you would need to use domain mapping to connect it to your site:

  Domain mapping is a feature of all paid plans (Personal, Premium and Business). Each plan includes a domain credit which can be used to map an existing domain (or register a new one).

  Our plans only include renewal for domains registered through WordPress.com. If you purchase a plan and add domain mapping, you will still need to continue to renew the domain through your registrar.
