Adding a domain: query?

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there

what i would like to know is: if you have built up back links on sites to your

    myblogname.wordpress.com URL,

then you decide to buy a .com domain for that blog and map it to your blog.

Then what happens to the myblogname.wordpress.com URL which all the previous backlinks point to ?

Are these backlinks still valid and pointing to your blog?
If someone clicked on them then would they get to the new domain name url?

Or would they no longer work?

    Cheers for any advice

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

After domain mapping, the blog will still exist here, and will actually still be at myblogname.wordpress.com, but it will look to everyone on the internet as if the blog is at mynewblogname.com. Anyone typing in myblogname.wordpress.com will get to that page on that blog, but what will show in the address bar is your new domain name.

    Examples:
myblogname.wordpress.com will be mynewblogname.com in the address bar
myblogname.wordpress.com/about/ will be mynewblogname.com/about/ in the address bar

Any link to a myblogname.wordpress.com page or post will still get there. None of those links with error out or anything.
