Adding a Follow button to my WordPress blog

    Hi
    I went through the following:
    ‘Adding the Follow Blog Widget
    Go to My Site(s) → Design → Customize → Widgets.
    Select the widget area to which you’d like to add the Follow Blog widget.
    Click Add a Widget.
    Find the Follow Blog Widget in the search box.
    Click the widget title to add it to your widget area.
    Customize the widget’s settings.’
    I’m not sure if I’m supposed to add something to those various fields that come up at the end rather than what is there. I didn’t and just clicked on Okay or whatever it was at the end. This is what it gave me at the side of my page: ‘You are following this blog.’ But it’s my own blog. A friend tried to follow me but couldn’t see how to do it. I just want a Follow button so he and any others can follow my blog by presumably getting an email whenever I post something there. Thanks. Chris

    Hi Chris! The fields within the Follow Blog widget are ways you can customize the wording that appears to your site visitors. That wording changes depending on if they are already logged into WordPress.com, or if they are not.

    If a visitor is logged into WordPress.com, they see the option to click to follow within the text.

    If a visitor is not logged into WordPress.com, they see the option to follow your blog by entering their email address.

    Because you are already logged in and viewing your own blog, you see the ‘You are following this blog.’

    As for your friend, if they are logged into WordPress.com, they should see the text and the word “Follow” below the text – have them click on “Follow”. Did that work?

    Hi Dean

    Thanks for this. Yes, it seems to work. I just wasn’t sure due to the different window I see on my page. My friend was able to Follow. I’ve had two others in the last couple of days. The Follow button must have fallen off in an update or something. I don’t think I’ve had it there for a while. I don’t think anyone has followed me for ages although I’ve got about 70 followers from years ago. I hadn’t been taking much notice. I just post an article every one or two months and it gets picked up by the search engines so I was happy with that.
