Adding a links section on left

We are using the Sunspot them, and have a great deal of difficulty adding a links section to the left side. Can someone please explain how to do it in very simple, basic terms? Appreciate your help.

The Sunspot theme offers two optional widget areas, one in the left column and one in the right column. To activate either area, just drag widgets to them in Appearance → Theme Options. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sunspot/
Create a blogroll in Links section of dashboard

go to > Appearance > Widgets > Links widget and install it to display the links you created
