Adding a members only area to site

I would like to have on my site a members login, that would lead my clients to a few pages unaccessible to the rest of the sites users. Is this possible with wordpress?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

At wordpress.com, your only choice would be to password protect those pages and then you could give that password to the people you wanted to have access. Do know though that all it takes is one person giving the password to another, or posting it on facebook, twitter or g+ to open it up to the masses, and that can and does happen.

To have a true membership area, you would have to self-host a wordpress.ORG installation and then get a membership plugin of some sort. Some of them are pretty stripped down as far as features and to get the extra features, some of which can be important, requires you to fork out $$.

You could set up a second blog for the membership stuff and then set that one to private. People would have to have, or get, a wordpress.com username and password (wouldn’t have to have a blog though).

I find that kind of annoying, i am rubbish with that kind of stuff. It would be a lot simpler if there was a members widget.
