adding a menu not supported by theme — CSS or widget?

My theme — Corporate — supports a few menus, but I want more control over where they appear. I am excited about learning CSS, but if a widget is “best practice” for what I want, then that is the route I want to take. Suggestions?
I suppose I could ask the same help with placing a video player widget on my page. I want that too. Suggestions?

Using a custom menu widget will allow you to place it in either of your theme’s two widget areas.
