Adding a new A DNS record – Issues
-
Shopify is instructing me to edit my A DNS record and point it to their new IP, however, I’m having the following issues:
1. I can’t edit the existing A record. Is there a way to do that?
2. Given the above issue I thought I would then just create a new A record, however, the second box down on the setup form is requiring me to enter a “subdomain” followed by a prefilled box containing “.mywebsitename.com”. What do I enter here? I just want it pointing to my main address http://www.mywebsitename.com.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Can you try following these instructions:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/change-name-servers/point-a-wordpress-com-domain-to-godaddy/
Ignore any GoDaddy specific parts of it. I am just curious if the A-Record instructions work any better for you.

Hi Josh,
I can’t find a solution to my issue within that document. Like @robinreadgriffin’s 1:33pm post in the forum I linked to above, I just need to point my website to Shopify’s IP using an A DNS record, however, when I create a new A DNS record here in WordPress I get what @robinreadgriffin does. A prefilled box with my website address preceded with a box that requires a subdomain. I don’t get what I put in there.

Can you let me know what the URL is where you are making these changes? Is it https://wordpress.com/my-domains/ or is it https://___________.wordpress.com/wp-admin/paid-upgrades.php?page=domains ?
If it is the former, can you try the latter and let me know if you get the same result?
I appreciate your patience here while we try and track this down. It is a huge help.

Odd . . it’s neither. I just log in and click “Domains” on the left. The URL is:
https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/___________.com/dns/___________.com
Should I still try one of the two you suggested?
-
Try the https://__________.wordpress.com one. The one you posted is just a more accurate version of the first one.

That did it. Thanks Josh. Really appreciate your help. Odd the current settings screen doesn’t work like the link you sent me too. Why?
Also, am I ok having the links above on this feed. I don’t want others users to be able to use them and get to my account. Can you maybe delete them?
Thanks again!

Happy to help.
Re: the links
There is absolutely nothing anyone can do for them and they are the same format for every WordPress.com site. But I have anonymized them for you.
