Adding a New Website to my account
-
Hi!
My name is Kate, and I have had a portfolio (www.madamekates.com) with WordPress for many years. This website is hosted through GoDaddy, and WordPress is used to manage content. I am currently in need of a second website to display a new talent (www.KathrynElizabeth.com) and was hoping to do it the same way, by using wordpress to manage and make the content and then masking the url to be kathrynelizabeth.com, but wordpress is redirecting me to Jet Pack, which is fine, but then it’s telling me the URL is not valid. I jumped through some other hoops, and now I have to pay $312 to keep the hosting service, and use wordpress for the content managment?

Hi Kate,
Just to clarify, is this a Managed WordPress plan from GoDaddy? Or do you have cPanel access and installing WordPress yourself?
-
This is not a managed wordpress plan from GoDaddy. I’m not sure what cPanel access is. I prefer to not install anything and use the web-based access.
Thank you LaLuneArt.

So you are trying to map the domain KathrynElizabeth.com to your wordpress.com site https://wordpress.com/support/domains/map-existing-domain/
At which stage in the domain mapping set up does it direct you to Jetpack and say Invalid URL?
-
I found another way to Map the Domain and left the page that was advising to use Jetpack. Now the site is telling me that It’s R$45 per year.
I also have WordPress for my MadameKates.com website and it doesn’t cost me anything. is mapping to the domain now a chargeable service? Is R$45 the cost in USD?

Hi –
I’ll try to eliminate some of the confusion here.
Your site is set up on the open source WordPress.org software and hosted by GoDaddy. That’s entirely different from using our managed hosting environment here at WordPress.com.
The Jetpack plugin links your WordPress.org site in a way that you can use our app. If you want to use the app then the plugin is needed. You don’t need to pay for a premium plan on Jetpack though for that purpose.
Please share a bit more about what it is you’re looking to do so we can send the best advice forward.

Hi lizkarkoski,
Thank you for answering my question. I always forget .org is different than the .com.
I’m a student and my homework assignment is to submit to a photo contest before the end of Tuesday, but I didn’t want to do it without a website in order to represent the body of work, answer any questions and make myself available. In looking to put together a second website that works like my first wordpress account, with publishing capabilities, I thought of you guys.

You can create a new WordPress.com site and, if you’d like to connect a custom domain to it, you will want to upgrade to any of our paid plans:
