Adding a petition to my website

    Hi folks

I’m hoping to add a petition to my website. I’ve had a go at doing this just using a standard page with a contact form, though of course that actually triggers an email rather than a database.

Is there any way, using the standard http://www.wordpress.com functionality, to add a form that feeds into a database? Or can you think of a better way to add a petition? Thanks

    Hi Chris,

I think you might be able to achieve this using Polldaddy, it allows you to collect responses and stores them on the the Polldaddy site.

If you look in your dashboard under Settings > Polls, you will see a page allowing you to connect your WordPress account with a Polldaddy account (they do have a free level.)

You could create a one page survey that allows people to enter their name, email and whatever other information you are collecting.

When you have finished your survey you will be given many options for adding it to a website, under the “Website pop-up” tab there will be a WordPress.com short code generated:

I created a really rough sample you can check out here:

All the results from people filling out the survey/petition are stored under results in your Polldaddy account.

If you are interested in trying this out and have any questions let me know, I hope this helps!

There are multiple petition sites, and most petitionable people already have at least one account at each. It’s actually better to use one of those. Just link to it.
