Adding a photo header
-
I believe I signed a three-year contract and am six months into it now. I had to have surgery so I stopped studying up on blogs and now I forgot what I learned. I just want to add a photo or header onto my blogs using a tropical theme.

I believe there are a few ways to do this. You can add general headers under the Design > Customize > Header image
Another route is through WP Admin > Appearance > Header
or
On each page or post along the right side under Document > Feature Image

Hi there,
I believe I signed a three-year contract
WordPress.com upgrade plans are bought for only one, or two years at a time, but you’ve not bought any upgrade plans with us, nor do we provide any service that requires you to sign a contract.
You only have one site with us, https://shineinthemoment.wordpress.com/. That site was created in 2013 and last updated in October 2019. Is that the site you need help with?
The Beach theme you’re using on that site is very old, and was retired several year ago, meaning it’s no longer being maintained. That theme does not have an option to add a custom header image.
If you want to look at newer themes that do support that feature, you can use the filters in our theme showcase to narrow down your options:
https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/custom-header
Another route is through WP Admin > Appearance > Header
Please don’t refer people to WP-Admin for options available through the My Sites interface. Most people who joined WordPress.com after 2017 don’t even know of WP-Admin, and besides the Appearance ->Header option, on the few themes that still display it, just redirects to the Customizer instead.
On each page or post along the right side under Document > Feature Image
Careful not to conflate a site header with a featured image, as they’re not the same thing. A custom header image is applied at theme level and will appear on every post and page on the entire site.
A featured image only appears for the specific post where it’s added, and even then only some themes actually show the featured image on the single post view, and even fewer replace the custom header, if set, with the featured image on single posts – only themes that specifically have the
featured-image-headerfeature does the latter. It’s always best to determine what site someone needs help with first, so you can make sure your answer is relevant to their specific case, as an answer that works for one site might not work for another.
If you haven’t seen it yet, there’s some more tips on helping out in the forums in our volunteers guide, here:
