Adding a scrolling message in a Text Widget
-
Hi all..
I am at http://whatitees.com.
I basically wanted to create a scrolling message included in a Text Widget (basically use the Marquee tag for the HTML) to show the titles of my future posts. But unfortunately, the marquee tag does not seem to work, and I see only a static text. I am trying this on IE7. I read somewhere that marquee works only for IE and not for netscape. Hence, on that count, this seems a little strange. Havent tested on Firefox though.Anybody tried with this and found some solution please?
Or anybody with any ideas on this – would be grateful if you could share it…thanks a lot!

Please see http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/06/08/allowed-html-tags/ for a list of the HTML allowed.

So, if the marquee tag is not allowed, could I know if there is any other method I can do this on a wordpress.com hosting?

Animated gif probably would work, but you need to get the image quality right otherwise they look pretty naff, in which case you’d be better off with static text instead.

Hmm…all ideas, worth trying…if anything, something to learn atleast…but I wonder why WP would omit the marquee tag…

Yes, you can put HTML in a widget, but there is a limit to what is allowed here. See the FAQ mtdewvirus refers to.
As far as adding scrollbars to a text widget (what this thread is about) See this blog post for how to do it: http://onecoolsite.wordpress.com/2008/08/17/adding-scroll-bars-to-text-widgets/
