Hi, I am keen on adding a shopping cart function on my domain. Is there a step by step documentation on realising this? Thanks!

That’s not possible. There is no upgrade, aside from a VIP hosting upgrade http://vip.wordpress.com/our-services/ that you can purchase that allows blogger initiated advertising on a free hosted WordPress.com blog. You will have to hire a web host and set up your own WordPress.org install to run your own advertising.
E-commerce transactions via shopping carts and the like cannot be conducted on free blogs from and being free hosted by WordPress.com. Paid content and/or sponsored content is not allowed.
