adding a special symbol in post content

  I’m really new to blogging and have the basic, free WordPress blog up and running. I am trying to add a symbol to my post that is not available on the keyboard (typically it appears in a drop down menu in Microsoft) but can’t figure out how to do it. Can you please help?!
