Adding a Subdomain but not mapping it
-
I have a custom domain, roguepriest.net, mapped to wordpress and I’m happy with it.
However, I’d like to add a subdomain, say xyz.roguepriest.net, and not map the subdomain to wordpress.
In other words I would like xyz.roguepriest.net to go to a self-hosted site while keeping roguepriest.net mapped to wordpress.
Is this possible? How do I do it?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’m not aware of this ever having been done. But until staff answer, you can always use a Custom Menu and just call the link whatever you want in your header.

One of my priorities is that I can design the subdomain page myself (not follow the theme of the rest of the site). I don’t think a Custom Menu would let me do that, would it?

Okay, but, if the menu points at xyz.roguepriest.net will the domain mapping cause it to redirect back to my WordPress site? Or are you saying I should creat a different, non-roguepriest.net site for the menu to point at? This is the part I’m not clear on.

I’ll consider that a fallback plan at best.
Does anyone know the answer to my original question – can I use a (ummapped) subdomain if my primary domain is mapped to WP?

Yes, you can create the CNAME record for the subdomain via your Custom DNS panel: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/custom-dns/
