  I have purchased a theme and unsure what to do next. I have the basic site so do I need to upgrade in order to add the theme?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Yes. If you upgrade to the WordPress.com Business plan, you can upload your own theme to your site.

  P.S. If you purchased a Premium Theme from the WordPress.com Showcase, you just need to activate the theme.

  The premium looks as though that also allows themes is that right?

  The Premium plan allows you to switch to any premium theme in the WordPress.com Theme Showcase at no extra cost, as many times as you’d like.

  However, you need the WordPress.com Business plan in order to upload your own third-party theme.
