Adding a travbuddy map
-
I’m trying to add a map from travbuddy.com to my sidebar, but I can’t figure out how. The instructions on the site just say to copy and paste the html onto your page, but that didn’t work on my sidebar or in my blog – it showed up in my post as html. Anyone know if and how I can add the map? Thanks for helping a newbie!

Also. Please paste the code into a reply here between backticks (`). That’s the key to the left of the number one and above the tab on most keyboards.

i cant access travbuddy right bow, seems its off line. However stuff like this is usually javasctipt and flash based, in which case you wont be able to use them since javascript and flash are removed for security.

I know you have to have Flash and the code is either Java or html (I don’t know the difference, if there is a difference). While I realize that WP doesn’t allow these, my friend has a travbuddy map on her WP blog, so there must be some way…I’m waiting for her to e-mail me back about it, but in the meantime here’s a link to my blog and the code I received from travbuddy.com:
http://jensennews.wordpress.com
<div style="width:400px; position: relative;"> <object width="400" height="213" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="http://www.travbuddy.com/flash/countries_map.swf?id=609619" height="213" width="400"> <param name="movie" value="http://www.travbuddy.com/flash/countries_map.swf?id=609619" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="bgcolor" value="#372060" /> <embed src="http://www.travbuddy.com/flash/countries_map.swf?id=609619" quality="high" bgcolor="#372060" width="400" height="213" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed> </object> <div style="background-color: #372060; text-align: center; width: 399px; border-left: 1px solid #372060;"> <a href="http://www.travbuddy.com/widget_map.php"><img src="http://www.travbuddy.com/images/widget_map_promote.gif" border="0"></a> </div> </div>(I added the backticks as per katm’s request)
I’d like to have the map show up on my sidebar permanently (like my friend’s at http://whataboutmomblog.com) and barring that I would at least like to be able to put it in a post. Thanks so much for any help!

WordPress.com is a multi-user blogging platform. Due to security reasons Shockwave flash embeds cannot be used on wordpress.com blogs and that is what the code you have posted is for. http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/10/23/can-i-add-flash-video-embed-other-media/
However, you can post clustr maps in a text widget in your sidebar http://clustrmaps.com/
And you do have a Platial Mapkit widget that you can use. It’s here -> Presentaion – >Widgets -
Your friend’s blog is running wordpress software, but it is hosted elsewhere. She is not hosted on wordpress.com, so none of the restrictions for bloggers on wordpress.com apply to her.
