Adding a video hosted on Dropbox to a wordpress.com site

Can wordpress.com sites have posts with videos hosted on Dropbox.com? That’s what I’m trying to do.
It seems like its possible with youtube videos, can’t figure out how to do it with videos hosted on other CDNs.

No. Dropbox is a storage solution, not a hosting solution. You can link to a file in dropbox, but you cannot play the video in your blog. It has to be hosted on one of the WordPress.com approved video hosts: http://en.support.wordpress.com/?s=video

Whether Dropbox is a hosting solution or not is not relevant.
It’s possible to embed dropbox videos into web pages, I did it with a quick html page I created myself, seems it’s just not possible with wordpress.com websites. Thanks for the info and link to the supported platforms.

Yes, it’s relevant since only hosting sites, not storage sites, are approved.
You can embed an audio file that’s at Dropbox, but not a video file.

I hate to threadjack, but can you host a PDF file from DropBox? I cannot seem to make it work with the “share link” generated by Dropbox.

Thanks, I did not realize “add media” could include PDF files. I do not think that was true when I first started by blog…

That’s an interesting use case.
If you have a wordpress.org site you can use plugins like Google Docs Embeder.
The list of supported plugins for WordPress.com sites is here.
There are bandwidth limits though.
