Adding a weather/time widget to wordpress.com
-
Just wondering if there is some weather ot time widget that’ll work in the wordpress.com sidebar ?
-
Sorry I believe that won’t be possible since those type of widgets require → Javascript which is not allowed here @ WP.com

It’s quite possible. I use the Weather Pixie which shows both weather and time. There are many, just google them.

Much thanks – I’d suspected the Javascript rule was the problem. Thanks raincoaster for your reply..I will chase that up…

From the site >
The server weatherpixie lives on has trashed its hard disks, we’ll be back once the servers owner gets back from snowboarding…

I have been the widget box route. They do not appear to have any widgets in pure HTML that are “dynamic”. They are all javascript from what I can see. -
As for a clock, almost all are based on dynamic scripts (javascript) and we cannot use them on our blogs. See > http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/
As we all have clocks on our computers and as each blogger can set their own timezone on their blog here > Settings > General I don’t consider that to be a significant loss. That bring said, the only clock I know of, aside form the one on Panos’s blog that we can use on wordpress.com blogs is this one http://www.al-habib.info/islamic-clock/digital-clock-ornament-button-01.htm -
~timethief,
I have a widgetpedia clock on my sidebar. (same a Panos’s, actually)
But I have it set to show my local time so my readers can see what time it is where I am. You know, sort of like those newsroom scenes where they display the different times in major cities around the world.
There are quite a few other (flash) clocks on widgetpedia, some very attractive. And they do have some flash weather widgets. I looked last night to find the one I tried but didn’t see it. It was too big and the design didn’t look good with my site.
Also just skimming through some of the offerings on widget box, it appears that there are at least a few flash weather widgets on offer. The couple I tried had adverts associated with them (one for a Hotel chain, the other just telling viewers to go to widgetpedia). I think you could pay a small fee to remove the advert.

Most weather widgets are javascript, but I’ve found a few flash ones. And lots of flash clocks. Posts forthcoming!
