Adding a website address to a page

  • Unknown's avatar

I just did what I would do if I was sending a web-page address by email…and copied it to the page, and I can see it hasn’t worked!
First page drop-down ‘reproductions’ it has just typed out the address (is that called the URL? am so ignorant…forgive me) but it has not gone live to speak.
Do all those items have to go in a sidebar?
I will be grateful for clues…it is uphill again! Julia

You want to use the chain link looking thing in the editor:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

PS Search on “link in post” (no quotes) in the Support Documents: http://en.support.wordpress.com/ yielded the above link as the top choice.

Sometimes the copy and paste works but the above works every time

Ah…mmm…I remember noticing the link thing that but thought it was for something else (to pages…I wish!).
I’ll try again. Thank you very much.

    I am back!
The link is greyed out when I try to edit a Page in Visual Editor…so I tried the HTML and clicked on LINK and entered the URL of the site in what looked like the appropriate place.
Now I can see the correct reference in the HTML version but not on the Page or in the visual editor. (See ‘reproductions’ one jot down under My Prints’)
Maybe I can’t use it on Pages?
    Thanks for any help forthcoming!

    1. Posts and pages are the same as far as the editor is concerned.

    2. The link icon is greyed out when inactive. As the Support doc auxclass linked to says, first you highlight the text you want to link, then you click the link button on the toolbar.

    3. Your link isn’t showing up on your page because you didn’t put any linking text. You’ve written this:
    <a href="http://printworkshopcentral.com/"></a>
    instead of this:
    <a href="http://printworkshopcentral.com/">LINKING TEXT HERE</a>
If you want the actual URL displayed as a link, you write this:
    <a href="http://printworkshopcentral.com/">http://printworkshopcentral.com/</a>
