Adding Affiliate Link

  • Unknown's avatar

In layman’s terms, can I get a step by step guide to add affiliate links to my WordPress blog? Everything I read is so technical and it can’t be that difficult for someone who doesn’t know code. Please help.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi
itsallaboutthekids.net/ is not hosted here at WordPress.Com. Sites not hosted here are known as self-hosted or sometimes WordPress.Org sites. You will get answers better suited for your self hosted site at:
https://wordpress.org/support/ You will have to create a login there, a simple thing to do

The forums here are meant for sites hosted here at WordPress.Com.

A quick search there looks like this:
    https://wordpress.org/search/afiliatelinks

Yes, you are at a WordPress site. You likely did not know there are others. It is easy to be confused by this. The WordPress software is written and maintained by the WordPress.org community, and is the blogging software that is used by over 25% of the web! Because of their commitment to Open Source code, ease of use, and popularity, WordPress software is installed by many hosting providers for use by their subscribers.
Automattic owns the hosting service known to us as WordPress.com.
BUT the software that you are using on your self hosted blog has no real connection with WordPress.com, beyond the name. They don’t talk to each other (even though they are on good terms).

https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ explains many of the differences between self-hosted and sites hosted at WordPress.Com
https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com is a more who is who explanation.

    good luck

Thank you Dave for responding. I appreciate it but I am a little confused. I log into my WordPress through WordPress.com to get to my website. However, I think you said I don’t, I am actually affiliated with WordPress.org. Since I am technically challenged when it comes to doing a lot of things, I am wondering what I am missing here. I signed up with SiteGround and received WordPress through them. As I said before, it comes in as WordPress.com. Am I going the wrong direction here? I wanted to be able to share ideas with my blog, but also would like to make some money with affiliates and such, What do you suggest?

    In the link i sent,
    https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_vs_WordPress.com
it talks about the relationship between WordPress.Com and WordPress.Org. Your site at Siteground uses WordPress software. They provide it as a service for you. There is even an explanation of this at the bottom of your page. The only thing in common between your site at Siteground and WordPress.Com is the word WordPress.

When you sign in to work on your itsallaboutthekids.net site, does the web address show WordPress.Com?

I believe you are doing the right thing by hosting at Siteground if one of your goals is to make even enough money to cover your expenses using affiliate links. You can do that with your site at Siteground. Affiliate links are not allowed here at WordPress.Com so you are on the right track there. Your site mentions having a store, which is much simpler to do at Siteground than it is here.

And sharing thoughts and ideas is what blogging is all about. Looking at your site, i love the concept, and i truly hope it does really well!

Thee are lessons at https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Lessons that can teach you everything in the world about using your WordPress, and there are resources galore on the internet. Do not worry about not knowing much of the technical stuff, it will come with time if you take the time to run through the lessons! And if you hit a snag, you can always ask at https://wordpress.org/support/

    Hope that helps!

Thanks so much for putting my mind at ease. And, yes, I do login at WordPress.com. I am a new blogger and wanted to be on the right track from the git go, so thanks for helping me to feel better about that. I guess I will need to get with the folks at SiteGround to see how to add the affiliates and try to start making a little money doing something I really like. You have been wonderful and I appreciate your insight so much. Have a great day!!
