Adding an email icon in the wordpress header

I want to add an email icon with a hyperling in the image, in my wordpress header as shown in the attached image
But when I add an icon I get hypertext mixed in with the icon, I have tried many menu icon plugins all with a similar proble

Looking at your account, you have no sites listed. Do you perhaps have another WordPress.com account, and could you please share your site URL?
