adding an image for your blog’s background.

I know that this is probably something really easy to do, but I just can’t seem to figure it out. I have an image on my computer I’d like to make into the background for my blog (its a free blog–I don’t web host), and I’ve been having difficulty doing so. Does my image have to be online? Or is it possible for me to upload it from my hard drive?

Any and all help would be much appreciated!

you can’t change a theme. there’s no way around it. I don’t think that even paying to get CSS access you are able to change a theme.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong :S

Depends on the theme actually. A link and the poster defining what they specifically have done to change it would be nice so we can see what’s occuring.

In theory, you can change all of the themes’ backgrounds here. I’d hate to say yes and then find out there’s one hardcoded within the body tag.

i guess what i tried to do was change my theme from one of the more complex ones to sandbox–without css. I figured it would give me more flexibility in changing my background to one of my own images. But everytime I go to preview it there are no changes. it just remains unafffected.

i definitely know you can’t change a theme, but you can edit it with css. I’m still new to it all, but even within a theme–for example, a header–I’d like to be able to add my own graphics but i’m having a difficult time doing so. i feel like may the problem is that the path to my images can’t be found from my harddrive, and it would have to be uploaded online in order to be visible on my blog. But, I could be wrong about that, too.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really just want to get some of my own graphics onto my blog.

The images can’t stay on your harddrive as they’re not accessable from teh net. You have to upload them somewhere.

And we still need a link to your blog please.

http://www.woweconomics.wordpress.com is the link to my blog. It’s no longer in the sandbox theme since i’m still having problems with the images stuff.

oops – I leave this to someone else to answer – sorry for the intrusion

i don’t have a css upgrade yet. i didn’t want to purchase one without knowing exactly how to do what I wanted to. I’ve been experimenting with the preview with no results, with the sandbox theme.

cool blog….it’s always ace to see topics i usually found boring written about in a lighter way. ;)

as to working within a theme, I always either upload directly to my blog or to photobucket and then I insert links from there. try uploading elsewhere to generate a link if there’s a glitch when you try to do it directly to wordpress. if you’re trying to do something fancy for a header, I would assume you can just do it in photoshop to the size your header is and then save and load it up from there…that’s what I did.

wow…thanks for the advice. That’s a lot simpler than trying to edit the css.

You’ve got a great blog, too, weirdscience. Thanks again for the insight:-)
