Adding an option to hide all social media sharing counts on icons due to issues
-
I have two blogs on wordpress.com. Like many users, my sites are not displaying accurate stats on the social media sharing icons.
With Twitter no longer providing stats, and Facebook stats resetting to zero after changing from http to https, which has happened on one of my blogs, I would prefer to hide all stats on social media sharing icons.
If I remember correctly, a few years ago this was an option. However, it doesn’t seem to be now. Could this be an added feature again please as it would remove the issue with wrong stats being displayed for Facebook shares and Twitter appearing to have no shares as many visitors to sites will be unaware Twitter itself is not providing the figures?
Obviously, the ideal solution would be for Facebook to count all http and https shares together and for Twitter to provide the numbers. But as it doesn’t seem likely this will be the case, I believe my suggestion is a simple remedy some of us can choose, even if only as a temporary measure until something better can be done.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Go here:

…and scroll down to “button style”. I believe if you choose “icon only”, that should leave the counts off of there.

I’ve tried that but the counts still show next to the icons. I’ve left the icon only setting on so you can see at http://www.soul-destruction.com/blog/

Hmmm, well that is a change I was unaware of. It looks like share counts are built into all of the choices right now.
I will pass along the idea of leaving one without the share count.

In the meantime, this is a fix that might work. Try pasting this in your css customizer:
span.share-count { display: none !important; } -
