Adding another User

How do I add contributors to my blog when I don’t know their email address, but only their user name? Can I or do I have to find out the Email address in some fashion or another?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You ADD someone that you have the user name for
You INVITE those that have no account but you know their email address.

Guess I should have double checked on my Dashboard – my oops – WordPress.com uses email as the basis of everything – so it looks like no way around that – I confused the WordPress.ORG software and there all you need to do is stuff in anything that looks like an email valid or not for some types of new users and you are good to go.
Looks like you will need to get the email from everyone you want to add.
