Adding another user’s Flickr photo to a post

I am trying to add another user’s Flickr image to a post, and before you ask, yes, the CC = can be used non-for-profit.
When I click on the ‘Add an image’ icon adjacent to ‘Add media’ in Visual format, a pop-up box asks for a “Source” and “Image Title”. What do I put here? If I put the flickr photo’s URL in the ‘Source’ dialog box an X appears indicating this is incorrect.

You are trying to hotlink the image from flickr, and that won’t work. Without seeing the photo on flickr, I’m just throwing out some ideas:
If you are a logged-in flickr member, you can use the “Post to Blog” button if the owner of the photo has allowed it on the photo and you’ve set up your WordPress.COM blog as the blog in your flickr account.
If the photo is CC licensed but doesn’t have the option of “Post to Blog”, you should be able to download the photo itself to your own computer. Then you would have to upload it to your WordPress.COM Media Library and insert it in your Post. In order to comply with the CC license, you most likely have to mention the name of the photo owner (BY) and a link back to the photo on flickr if it isn’t mentioned by the photo owner would be nice, because that also boosts their views for interestingness, and state that it’s being used under a CC license.
That’s all I can think of off the top of my head.

Hotlinking from Flickr WILL work, but in most cases you’re using the URL of the page, not the image itself. Be sure you have the image URL itself, not just the URL of the page on which it’s displayed. And it can’t be set to private or anything, of course.

Not always true, rain. Depending on the settings the image owner has enabled, you normally can only download a CC licensed image to use elsewhere, but you cannot hotlink it from flickr.
