Hi,
You can’t add plugins to a WordPress.com site. Not sure what you mean by “Adding archive status.”
-
What I mean is, I want to change specific posts from published to archives so that it only shows up under an archived widget and not in my active feed. When I googled this, it said you can do it by downloading an archive plugin, but when I tried it, there was no executable file. So, that didn’t work. I tried switching my theme, thinking maybe the archive status is only available on certain themes, but I couldn’t find a free one that offered the archive status. Is there a way to do this? I know it can be easily done in blogspot, but it doesn’t seem easy on wordpress.

That’s not possible on a wordpress.com hosted blog.
Blogger installed plugin capability does not exist on WordPress.COM blogs and there is no upgrade you can purchase here that changes that reality. You are confusing WordPress.ORG and WordPress.COM. For that type of functionality you’d need a self-hosted site running on a paid web hosting service.

We have built in plugins as you can see by clicking this link http://en.support.wordpress.com/plugins/ but none do what you want to do.

So, there’s no way to move published blog posts to a side widget? How about moving them so they don’t the active front page feed?

@ breakingthecycle716,
So, there’s no way to move published blog posts to a side widget?
You can provide links to posts in various sidebar widgets. For example:
- Categories Widget
- Archives Widget
- Recent Posts Widget (up to 150 posts)
- Display Posts Shortcode in a text widget.
You may also use category pages, to arrange posts by category. A category page is a type of archives page which will display only posts assigned to a specific category. A unique category page is created automatically each time a new category is assigned to one or more posts. Convenient links to category pages may be included in a custom menu. The custom menu may be displayed in the header are navigation menu, or in a sidebar with the custom menu widget.
How about moving them so they don’t [display in] the active front page feed?
You don’t have to display your blog or posts page on the front page, or anywhere. See the Set a Static “Home” Page (Front Page) support page to learn how to use a static page instead of the posts page as your front page. When you set the front page to display a static page, you should also assign another page on which to display your posts page. However, you don’t have to provide a link to the posts page in a menu, or anywhere else.

You cannot remove any published post from the RSS feed URL for posts at https://breakingthecycle716.wordpress.com/feed/ except by deleting the post, which, of course, is not recommended.
