Adding articles as posts on pages.

Hey people. I’ve been having a problem lately, I’ve been trying to create pages to put my articles in, and been trying to put my articles in those pages as posts. But no matter what I try, it doesn’t seem to work. Can anyone help em with this?

We’ll need a link to your blog so that we can see how to help you.

    Okay, thanks.

First, read this: http://support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ to help you understand the difference between posts and pages.

Your main blog page doesn’t seem to have any posts on it at the moment. You do have two pages with content. These pages don’t dynamically update. They are for static information which you would like to always have accessible from the main page.

You can only have one dynamically updating blog page where your posts will appear in chronological order (most recent first). If you would like your readers to be able to access different groups of posts, you can use categories to do this. Give all your posts a category. Then create a page with a title like this:

    <a href="http://YOUR BLOG URL/category/CATEGORY NAME">Page name</a>

This will take readers to a page containing excerpts of all the posts within that category. You need to make sure that the page name has at least one space in it (don’t know why, you just do), so if it’s one word, put a space after it.

Ah thanks. So basically, make categories, and on the first page, have links to those categories?

Well, it depends what you mean by ‘first page’. At the moment your main url tries to take you to the blog page but there are no posts so it gives a message that it can’t find what you’re looking for. If you want a static homepage, see here: http://support.wordpress.com/pages/7/

Then you can just put links to categories on that page if you want. What I was suggesting is that you can set up ‘fake pages’ which appear in your sidebar as page links, that take you directly to the dynamically updating category pages. But you can do it however you prefer.

Also, just because some people get confused by this, you can’t make empty categories. Categories only exist once there are posts labelled with them. So write some posts and give them categories.
