Adding author but name is gibberish
-
This is the first thing I haven’t been able to figure out myself or through a forum search! When I add a user as an “author” on my blog, his name comes up as gibberish rather than the name he’s already established on my site (by commenting on it). I’m using the same email he uses as a commenter, but instead of “Michael” showing up, I just get a long random line of letters and numbers.
I had added an author to my blog without a hitch previously, so I’m not sure if it’s me or WordPress. And it tells me I’m not allowed to edit his name.
I’d actually like the authors on my blog to be identifiable, so what should I do? Much thanks.

The reason the name is different is because his blog author & comment
name is different from his username.Example
My user name teck07
But when I write posts the readers see Teck,
& the same when I leave comments on other peoples
blog’s they also see “Teck” instead of teck07, -
Oh also don’t worry about the gibberish username
“Michael,” will show up when he writes posts or replies
to comments on your blog. -
What, specifically, is the string of gibberish? Usually that happens when someone has already used the email for a registration…there was also something I can’t quite recall about a gmail issue.
He CAN change the display of the name. He goes to his Dashboard, and under Users -> My profile he puts “Michael” in the spot marked “nickname.” Then he Saves the Changes. Then he goes back to that spot and there’s a drop-down menu to choose which name is publicly displayed: the nickname is one of the options after you save it, so he just selects that and then saves again. Now it should work.

Excellent. We’ll try that.
The gibberish was something like awotlwlflsmflm9u02u602u502 — just a long string of letters and numbers. He did get the WordPress email telling him he was set up (unfortunately, I’d deleted him at that point, but I’ll set him up again). My last blogger guest (my blog is kind of an informal town news website and I don’t like it to be inactive when I’m away) already had a blog on WP, so possibly it just went to his normal settings.
Thank you!

You can also contact staff and see if they can do anything about that, otherwise it will appear on his Dashboard and if he posts in the forums. I’m still not exactly sure why this happens, but there’s an FAQ about it, not sure if this is related:
