Adding Authors – I’m confused

Hi people
I want o add authors to my blog. They must not have any control of the blog, they must only be able to post articles.
I’m trying to do this, but to me it seems that in order for anyone to post on my blog they have to be a member of the WordPress community – in other words they have to have their own blog.
Is this true – or am I missing something?

Yes that is true (part a) and not true (part b). They do have to be a member of the WordPress community (ie having a username and password), but they do not HAVE to have their own blog. When you sign up for WordPress.com you can create an account with only a username and no associated blog.
