Adding authors who aren't wordpress users

    I have invited a guest blogger to have author privileges so he can follow his post, respond to comments, edit it, etc. He is having difficulty as he believes he needs to have a blog on WordPress based on what he’s reading in the invitation. That can’t be true, but I don’t know how to advise him as I have only guest blogged for other WordPress blogs. I am already a WordPress blogger, so I have no idea what the process is for an author who is not a WordPress blogger. He is getting the invitation, he just isn’t sure what to do once he receives it.
