Adding Banner and Changing Colour of Wording?

I’ve only just created my blog at WordPress, so i’m very new at learning about the settings.
What i’m having trouble with is adding a logo banner at the top of the page, and then secondly i was hoping to change the colour of my blog name up the top to another colour so it doesn’t blend into the theme as much…
Does this make any sense?
Any help would be so greatly appreciated…

Change header: dashboard – appearance – header
Change tagline: dashboard – profile
Change font color: `text here
you can change the color code to whatever fits your liking like “#3e5f7b”hope that helps :)

Oops…sorry, the color of blog’s name is theme related. You can either pick themes that support the feature or take CSS upgrade if you’re good with coding.

I created my own header with Photoshop using wordpress header specs, then just uploaded it. It’s simple, just follow the bouncing ball.

This doesn’t work with the template I have. I have no option under “appearance” for headers. I can edit css, but there’s no option there either. Another forum told me to download the header file to the “template folder” but that doesn’t seem to exist anywhere. What am I doing wrong here?

I’m actually having a hard time changing much of anything with this template:
* The header
* Erasing or hiding the avatar box
* Hiding the “About Us” as the default text on the frontpage (instead of blog posts)
* Moving some of the widgets out of the sidebar (there are lots that we have disabled that are still appearing)Although I’m a bit of a newbie, I did use wordpress a year ago, and it wasn’t nearly this stubborn. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong?

All the issues you’ve mentioned are due to the theme you have chosen, Grid Focus.
It supports a 42×42 pixel header image. (the “avatar box”) http://support.wordpress.com/themes/custom-header-image/
You must have accidentally set the “About Us” as the front page of your blog. http://support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/ Mark the box “Your Latest Posts” and save your changes.
Widgets-there’s another thread running where someone else is having trouble getting widgets out of the side bar. I’d drop a note to Support directly.
For the future, please consider linking your username to your blog so that we can see right away that you’re using the COM platform. :) The instructions are in the stickie at the top of the forum “8 Things”.

Thank you, Jennifer! After looking more, it seems that the Grid Focus theme isn’t set up to modify much at all. In fact, there’s not even a setting option for the Front page, as the help section suggested. I know this was a 2009 theme. Maybe there are still bugs in it–
I think we’ll look for a new theme that’s more customizable. Hopefully, that will give us options for a real banner as well.
Thank you for all your help! It would have taken me quite a while to figure all that out on my own!

Nonetheless, I would seriously consider dropping Support a note about not being able to set the front page to posts. That to me sounds like a bug specific to you, or at least in my infrequent visits to the forums lately I haven’t seen others mention it.
