Adding blank lines to post

A solution for adding blank lines (for added vertical white space) in your post.

Other posted solutions did not work or were inadequate.

Goal: Add any amount of vertical white space anywhere in post. Not only did I want to add blank lines between paragraphs, but also within a paragraph, for example to add space between numbered list items without restarting the numbering or altering the css style. I also wanted full control of the amount of vertical space. And I wanted the ability to switch back and forth between HTML and Visual editing modes without losing the space.

Solution: Create a “blank” graphic, such as an all-white 10×10 jpg (for the theme I use). The size doesn’t matter because you can resize it in your post – also note the one 10×10 white image can be used for all spacing even if each is a different height. Add it where you want, size it how you like, and use center alignment to avoid wrap around. Obviously the same method could be used for highly customized indenting or margins, by using left or right alignment.

In some themes you’ll also have to address removing the border that automatically gets added around graphics. I address how to do that in a different post, by setting a zero border and removing the background image (in the case of the MistyLook theme and others like it). See https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/borderless-images-using-mistylook-theme-and-others?replies=1 or search for “borderless images mistylook”.

Easier solution (thanks to fellow member devblog):

    <div style="height:20px;"></div>
(20 is an example, roughly two lines – adjust as you see fit)

Your solution is also neglecting the fact that some users set their browsers to display the colors THEY choose instead of the original colors of the pages they visit.
