Adding blog URL to WordPress reader resolves to incorrect domain

  • Unknown's avatar

when adding “onewaywardson.com” to the blogs I want to follow, it adds “oliverCdamon.wordpress.com” instead. I transferred my onewaywardson.com domain to 3rd party host and now I have this issue. If you attempt to navigate to onewaywardson.com in a web browser, it correctly resolves to the right website. It only resolves to OliverCdamon.com in the wordpress reader.

    Please help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

I’m sorry for the trouble with this. I’ve asked our developers to look into why that’s happening in the Reader, and I’ll let you know what I find out from them.

If there’s anything else I can do to help in the meantime, please let me know.

thanks SO much! I’ve got bluehost looking at it too. It’s very odd and i hope to get it resolved soon so I can get back to posting ;)

and I should clarify…when you add ‘onewaywardson.com’ in the reader as a blog to follow, it changes it to ‘oliverCdamon.wordpress.com’ and follows that blog instead

    Hi….any updates on this? :)

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

Our developers are still investigating why this is happening — it looks like there may be a link between your domain onewaywardson.com and your WordPress.com address that was saved in our system, and they are looking into what exactly is going on there. I’ll let you know as soon as we figure this puzzle out. :)

Great! I hope this gets resolved soon so I can get back to blogging :)

Ok things are a tiny bit better. I posted from http://www.onewaywardson.com and it showed up in the reader. However, my wordpress reader follow button is now missing from my site. I used the link below to generate it. A few days ago. When attempting to re-generate it, the utility below returns no html code to plug in :( Something is still broken.

Also in the reader it shows my site has only 2 followers but in the jetpack site stats it shows 112 which is the correct number.

    Hi there,

Yep, our developers fixed the issue with subscriptions, so subscribers will get the posts from your self-hosted blog now.

Before troubleshooting the other issues you mentioned, I’d like to make sure the Jetpack connection for your blog is working correctly. Could you please go to the Jetpack section in your dashboard, disconnect Jetpack from WordPress.com, and then reconnect it? Please let me know once that’s done and I’ll take another look at the issues you mentioned.

Hi Rachel. I just disconnected and reconnected.

  • Unknown's avatar

Ok…still no luck :( my posts from onewaywardson.com are just not going to the reader

  • Unknown's avatar

the only posts that go to the reader are from my olivercdamon.wordpress.com blog :(

  • Unknown's avatar

Its even worse than yesterday now. The reader is not feeding posts from either my new blog location (onewaywardson.com) or the old one (olivercdamon.wordpress.com). Now nothig is working.

I really just want it to recognize and populate posts from onewaywardson.com in the reader :(

    Hi there,

I see all of your new blog’s posts in the Reader here: https://wordpress.com/read/blog/id/68902498/

I was able to subscribe to the blog and see all of your posts from that blog in my Reader. However, I see that if you subscribe to the blog by adding onewaywardson.com to the “Blogs I Follow” section you end up subscribed to a different feed: https://wordpress.com/read/blog/feed/21372542/

I’m checking with our team now to find out why that’s happening. However, I want to assure you that your current followers are able to see your posts on the new blog.

  • Unknown's avatar

really? hmmm. i hve people tellingme they are not seeing them. I just added one titled “test 2 from new domain”. Do you see that one? nobody else is :(

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi there,

Yes, I do see that post. I also spot-checked some of your other followers (who were already subscribed to your blog), and they also have that post and others from the new blog in their WordPress.com Reader.

If specific followers aren’t seeing your posts in their Reader, could you please let me know their usernames or email addresses so I can look them up in our system? (If you reply here with their email addresses, they will be hidden from everyone except staff to keep them private.)

  • Unknown's avatar

That’s very odd. I am subscribed to my blog via adding the url of onewaywardson.com to the reader list manually. I do not see myself in the list of subscribers in my stats view in jetpack though and I do not get any of my posts in the reader. The same goes for others I have talked to.

I also cannot generate a “follow” button using this code generator here. This was working a few days go but now it simply does not return any html code to insert into my page. Something is very wrong.

I really appreciate all the follow up :)

Any further progress? I’m getting nowhere :(

    Hi there,

Our developers weren’t available to look into this over the weekend, but I’m checking in with them now to see if they have more information about what’s going on. I’ll let you know as soon as I have an update about that.

    Hi there,

Can you please enable the JSON API module in Jetpack, and then try generating the follow button here again: http://developer.wordpress.com/docs/follow-button-creation/

Please let me know how that goes!
