Adding bylines for contributors w/o inviting them
-
if you go on any website that has a host of contributors, when you click on an article, you’ll see the title and then a byline, “by Joe Yellow.” you can even click on Joe’s name and it will redirect to all of his articles.
HOWEVER, Joe doesn’t have ANY access to the site. I’ve found that you can go add users. But I don’t want to add users. I want the ability, when I, as the host of the site, post an article written by Joe Yellow, to have the option to add his name instead of mine when I post.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

But I don’t want to add users. I want the ability, when I, as the host of the site, post an article written by Joe Yellow, to have the option to add his name instead of mine when I post.
That’s not possible. He will have to type his own byline on the top line in the body of the post.

Okay — is there a way to remove my name as the author of posts where other people are contributing? otherwise, it will say both of our names.

Either Joe has access to the site as a user or some poor intern does and is copy/pasting in Joe’s emailed article, adding his name in as Author, and so on by hand.
You cannot choose a username as author if the user account does not exist.

so a while back i was a contributor for an online men’s magazine. whenever i would submit an article, my name would show up on the site, but i was never given an access code to the site or invited.
but the host of the magazine was using wordpress, so he was able to do something to add my name and not have his name also posted.

ok quick update – i figured out a way.
it will be posted by me, since i am the host of the site, but i can add a subtitle to the title, and that will be the author’s name.
however, there is still no way to click on the authors name and be redirected to a page that has all of their articles.

What you are asking for is not possible on a WordPress.COM hosted blog. There is no workaround. What is possible is stated at these links:

1. You can only switch to using a theme that does not display an author byline. Here’s a partial list http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/08/15/author-displayed-or-not/
2. Purchase a custom design upgrade and use CSS editing to remove it. See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable custom and CSS editing:

Like I said, the editor must have either done it himself or had staff do it. He created an Author account but didn’t give you access; just him or his helper.
