Adding captions & adjusting padding around embedded videos
-
Hi – is it possible to adjust the spacing around a video, and/or add a caption?
I’m especially keen to be able to adjust the padding, as currently there is a lot of space below the second video, before the text starts. I don’t know how to change that.
Thanks,
TimThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi, the large white space below the second video is the space for the entry title. You can use the following CSS, which targets this specific page, to make some of the space go away.
#post-38 .entry-header { display: none; }Also, at the top of your content, there is a blank paragraph and a couple of line breaks. Open that page in your editor, put your cursor before the first word and hit delete a few times to remove those and tighten things up more.

Thanks! That CSS worked great to close up the gap.
I still can’t make the captions display though…? If I go to the permalink for the video I can see that it’s there, but I can’t make it display on the ‘homepage’. Any suggestions?

Hi, on your home page, I’m seeing empty paragraphs below the videos whereas on the page you reference, I see that paragraph has content (your caption). Have you tried entering the caption below the videos on that page?

Hm… don’t think I have that option. I can’t edit that ‘page’ (the permalink page) as it’s not a page as such. I can edit the caption and the description in the media library, but they don’t seem to display on the home page.
Any thoughts?

Hi, http://shockroomfilm.com/2014/11/12/trailer/shock_room_actor_interviews/ is not actually a post, but is the media attachment page, which will display the title and the caption. On the front page, you have an untitled post with those two videos inserted into it. VideoPress does not show the media title or caption on posts or static pages.
-
Sorry, if it doesn’t show captions “on posts or static pages” then where DOES it show them? Bit confused…
-
It shows them on the media attachment page. Let me use an image as an example (media is media for the most part). When you insert an image into a post or page, if you want that image linked to something, you have several options in the “File URL” dropdown
Media File (links to the file itself and opens in the browser window)
Attachment Page (links to a separate, specially formatted page that looks like your theme, and displays the image/media)
Custom URL (lets you link an image or media file to another page or post in your site, or even to an external URL)
None (does not link the image or media to anything)
On images, EXIF data for the image and the description you might enter will not show on the blog pages or on the single post pages, but if you link that image to the Attachment Page, it will display the EXIF data and description. Images are a little different in that they will show captions on blog pages (most of the time) and posts.
If you go here http://shockroomfilm.com/2014/11/12/trailer/shock_room_actor_interviews/ and then go to your menu on top left where it says “My Sites” and then click Edit, it will take you here, https://shockroomfilm.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=423&action=edit which is the media attachment page for that video.
With Videos, they automatically have a Media Attachment page.
I hope I haven’t confused things further.

Ok, thanks. This all makes sense. (It doesn’t solve my problem, but at least I understand what’s going on… I’ve figured out a workaround for displaying the captions on the page which will do)
Thanks!
